WGI to host Olympic Study Day on June 26
In the post-Olympic year 2025, around one year after the end of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, the Willibald Gebhardt Institute, as one of two German Olympic Studies Centers, will once again host an Olympic Study Day in collaboration with the University of Münster. The event will take place on Thursday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The lectures held as part of the Olympic Study Day are open to all interested individuals, but are also integrated into the lecture series “Sports Education & Sports History” given by Junior Professor Dr. Helga Leineweber to sports students at the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Münster.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Niehaus from the University of Ghent will be a guest at the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science for the Olympic Study Day 2025. He is one of the world’s most respected experts on sports development in Asia and will speak about the Olympic movement from an Asian perspective. Afterwards, doctoral student Cand. Phil. Yoonkyu Song will present on his visit to the International Olympic Congress in January 2025 in Ahmedabad (India). The megacity in India is a promising candidate to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. Yoonkyu Song represented the WGI at this congress.
We look forward to welcoming many interested guests to the Olympic Studies Day. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Lecture Hall 17.22 on the Leonardo Campus, 48149 Münster. We also invite everyone interested in the Olympics and Olympic Sport who will not be able to join the event in Münster in person to attend online. Questions can be directed to WGI Vice President Michael Krüger at michael.krueger@uni-muenster.de.
