Tokyo 2020 key topic of WGI “Olympic Study Day” 2021

After the premiere in 2019, the Willibald Gebhardt Institute’s 2021 Olympic Science Day will be hosted for a second time in Münster, Germany, in June 2021 – after the pandemic-related break last year. The second edition of the event in Münster will focus on Olympic Studies. On Tuesday, June 29, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. as part of the lecture by Prof. Dr. Michael Krüger. The 2021 Olympic Study motto is “Olympia without an audience? Challenges of Olympic Sports and Olympic Education in Times of the Pandemic”. The event, jointly organized by the WGI and the Institute for Sports Science at the WWU Münster, takes place in cooperation with the German Olympic Academy (DOA).

The purpose of the Olympic Study Day is to inform and discuss values and goals, topics and problems of Olympic sport and the Olympic Games. This year the focus will be on the upcoming Games in Tokyo in 2020, 2021 respectively. Among other things, the role and importance of Olympic education but also the supervision and support of Olympic athletes will be discussed. There will also be a contribution from Tokyo that sheds light on the current situation in the host country of the Olympic Games.
